Ministry of Finance and USAID/EGGI Complete Annual Program Budgeting Trainings for GIROA Staff
During the reporting period, the EGGI Program Budget team supported MOF Budget Department to complete the annual program budgeting training program.
The line ministries and agencies participating in the final training sessions included the Office of Disaster Preparedness, Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations, Directorate of Kuchis, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Information and Culture, Science Academy and National Olympic Committee.
The initiative trained approximately 400 finance, planning and administration officers from all government budgetary units. USAID/EGGI Facilitates Further Coordination of Stakeholders on DBBI
On July 25, EGGI facilitated a joint coordination meeting for the donor projects involved with the Doing Business Better Initiative (DBBI) working groups. The meeting took place at the Harakat office with participation from the USAID-funded Trade and Accession Facilitation for Afghanistan (TAFA) project, Harakat, and EGGI.
The EGGI Doing Business Advisor presented his inception report and focused on recommending next steps for strengthening the working groups and overall coordination of the initiative. TAFA and Harakat representatives have described difficulties similar to those encountered by EGGI in gaining sufficient high level support and engagement in the initiative. Read More
USAID/EGGI Gender Mainstreaming Team Delivers an Orientation to Participants in the Popular Women in Government Internship Program
During the reporting period, EGGI finalized plans for placing Women in Government interns at the Ministry of Economy (MOE) and the Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA), and EGGI's budget team.
In the upcoming session, which is scheduled to begin on August 1, a total of 10 young women will receive placements. Six interns will work at MOE, of whom two will work in the Database Monitoring Section, and four will work in MOE's Monitoring and Supervision Directorate.
AISA will host two interns, one in the Licensing Department and the second in the Investment Promotion Department. The two remaining interns will work with EGGI's own budget team.
To prepare the interns to make the most of their experiences, and to perform well in the functions, EGGI conducted an orientation for them on July 26. The orientation covered an overview of the Women in Government Program, an explanation of program rules, procedures for monitoring, supervision, and reporting, and a review of the roles and responsibilities of each of the young participants.
